Lace

Whoops, I'm a day late with this week's Marvelous Monday! Sorry 'bout that!
Anyway, this week's theme: lace!
Let's just talk about how much I love this blouse, and how pretty it makes any outfit. I'm not sure if it's the snazzy flower detail, or the flutter sleeves, or the black itself, but it just makes me feel so pointlessly fancy. Or witchy. Really, it can go either way, and I'm happy with both.
I've been playing around a bit more with my tripod, and while I'm still having trouble with it, it's been pretty fun. I just have to figure out how to get those detail shots of necklaces and shoes and stuff. That bit's more than a little tricky. Any tips, dedicated tripod users?

And now, I suggest that we all head over to the others' blogs and find out what kinds of pretty, lacy looks they've come up with.

Tripod

So I found myself with a bit of money (oh, jury duty, you were so good to me) and I finally got a tripod for my camera. It was fourteen dollars at WalMart, and excepting the fact that I'm pretty inept with it, I'm happy with it. It's a Targus, and it extends to 42 inches, which is perfect for full outfit shots (we can have vertical pictures, oh happy day!), but a bit tricky for detail shots. I blame the height, though; it's really just me.
I played around with it a bit on my porch earlier, and I'm sure that I'll get the hang of it eventually!
Probably.

Wherever that bruise came from, it kinda hurts.

Not the focus I intended, but kinda cool all the same.

This Just In

I need to stop cutting my hair. I miss maiden braids.

But come on, we all know I'm going to get my hair cut within the next couple of weeks.

Kind of Obnoxious

Welcome back, dear readers, to yet another Marvelous Monday!
This week's theme: neon!
I don't know if this will come as a surprise or not, but I don't own any neon clothes. I know, it's shocking, right? Well, I do have some neon accessories, and I wore a couple of them with a simple black and white dress for extra impact.
That fantastic, aggressively neon bag is a Nine West bag my mom and I found in Ross last December. I loved it so much that my mom ended up getting it that day and then giving it to me as a Christmas present. Considering the fact that it's Nine West, it was dirt cheap, and an amazing find.
The necklace has a much less interesting story. It was a dollar from Forever 21.
And I have to apologise for the state of my room. Half of it is dominated by Kittentopia (which, unfortunately, will be dismantled toward the end of the week, as we're starting to find homes for them), and the other half by boxes. That whole moving thing is starting to get pretty real, and I'm so incredibly excited. And on top of that, I'm starting to get things together for our upcoming family vacation. Things are a bit more frenetic than usual, and it's manifesting as a mess in my room.
I've also started getting into painting. While I don't paint faithful representations of the fake daisies on our dining table, it is a lot of fun for me. I'm planning on painting and embroidering a bunch of stupid things and putting them on the walls of my room in the dorm.
And then, I did something crazy a couple of days ago: I sent a query letter to a literary agent. We'll see where that goes, if anywhere.
Finally, I've started speaking to some of my suitemates. It's weird to start thinking of them as real people I'll be living with for sixteen weeks, rather than blank entities I'll live with eventually, in the vaguely distant future. I don't mind it, actually. And at least one of them has a face, as far as I'm concerned.
Anyway, enough of that. How about some clothes and paintings? Yeah.

I want this in the kitchen. I hope my roommates aren't put off
by that.

My favourite quote.

Some of my things and an AWESOME present
from Dani.
Now that you've experienced my babbling and wild mess, go cast your eyes in the direction of the others!

Bared

It's another Marvelous Monday, and this one was totally marvelous! But if you don't know what Marvelous Monday is, even if it's just a silly dull Marvelous Monday, you should feel free to learn and fix that.
This week: bared arms and/or legs!
As this is something I do a lot (especially in the summer), I actually decided to go for short sleeves as opposed to sleeveless.
Though, to be honest, everything was really focused on the skirt. I mean, come on. I wanted something comfortable and easy and at least a little bit rad because I knew I was going to be doing a lot of stuff today. I renewed my learner's permit (finally, and I'm almost certainly going to drive more), and I got a ton of stuff for next month.
Guys, I'm so excited.
Seriously.
ANYWAY.
Here's what I wore today.

And don't forget to check out the others baring their limbs!

Unprofessional

So I'm wildly behind on my Marvelous Monday post, mostly because, well, I haven't been feeling particularly inspired lately. When I wear cute outfits, I forget to take photos or the place I do take photos is overrun by kittens, but for the most part, I just spend my time being lazy in my pajamas. I mean, they're cute pajamas, but I'm not going to take pictures in them. That would be silly.
Next week's Marvelous Monday will go better, assuming I remember to ask my companion to take a picture of my outfit.
That's what it is, mostly: having to take pictures. I'm okay with being photographed, of course, but I'm not happy with the way in which I have to go about doing it. I still don't have a tripod, and I have to rely on setting my camera down on stable surfaces that might not yield the best background. The pictures in my bedroom are always taken on my dresser, and I'm tired of it, you know? And I kind of hate asking people to take my picture because it just feels so egocentric and silly. Of course, blogging about what I wear is pretty egocentric, but it's not that bad a thing to be. I just don't like other people thinking it of me. Which is absurd. I know.
I'm on the hunt for a tripod so I can be a reliant self photographer, but I don't have the money to spend on one yet. Soon, though, I hope. I really, really hope. It would be nice. Because my university is gorgeous, and it would be nice to treat you guys to pictures of the same quality with prettier backgrounds.
I also feel a bit inadequate with my point-and-shoot, even though I do love it. It's been through the wringer, I swear (the lens mechanism won't work properly, but the camera itself is fine, so I love it even more), but it still takes decent pictures. But I read through other, good blogs and just feel like I have absolutely no idea what I'm doing because my camera isn't an SLR and I don't have the "necessary" equipment and my room is always a mess and what am I even doing.
Don't worry, we'll return to our regularly scheduled blog thing later. I'm just in a bit of a slump.
As a reward for reading this, have a picture of a kitten!

Bit of an Adventure

I'm lame and didn't take my own pictures of the Fat Babe Meetup (sorry!), but I'll post some of the group's pictures eventually. It was as wonderful as you'd think it would be!
I met up with one of the babes, Clare, at Union Station. While it was nice to just have someone show me how to do the whole LA transit thing (I thought I was good at public transit, and now I know that I was a fool), it was really fun to wander the Renegade Craft Fair with her. I do have a few pictures from that, so enjoy!
More about the Fat Babe Meetup soon, guys. For now, enjoy some silly pictures!
(Also, my Marvelous Monday post will be a little bit late, but it will happen. It's all good.)

Making Statements

As I'm sure you're all aware, today's Monday! That means that it's actually Marvelous Monday, of course, because we deserve it.
This week's theme: statement jewelry!
I got this necklace for a dollar months and months ago, and I think I've only worn it once. That's a tiny bit disappointing, as I really like it. I finally busted it out today, though!
Now, I'm going to continue melting a little (summer in the desert is horrible, guys) and think about taking a nap.
And I'm switching up my photos a bit by taking them in the Cat Room, mostly because my own room is sort of a kittentopia right now.

Now, let's go see what sort of statement the others made!

Another Reminder

Guys, guys, guys! Come do this thing! It's Sunday, July 21st at Grand Park and starts around two. There will be pizza, I'll bring cookies, and you can meet my face. So, if you're in/around LA that day (and keep in mind, I'll be taking the train for approximately two hours that day, so no excuses), come join us! And, actually, if anyone's interested in meeting up at Union Station around 11:30 or so (when I'll be arriving), then let me know!
I hope I get to meet some of you!

Justice!

I had jury duty this week, and felt like a real, proper grown-up. I went in yesterday and found out that one of my friends was serving the same day. So we sat around, being bored together and eating veggie burgers and teriyaki bowls, waiting, sitting in disappointing courtrooms, being sent home early, and all that jazz. Two days of basically nothing. But, it's all good.
I did get a mall trip and haircut out of it, plus I got to spend time with one of my friends. That's a good couple of days altogether, man.
Yesterday's outfit wasn't really anything special, but today, I felt like a lawyer.
Worth it.
A real, proper grown-up with a messy room. Yep.

I walked into the beauty school and forgot I was growing out
my hair.
