So I've set up yet another blog, but this one is strictly for writing. Inspiration, nonsense about my process (what process?), stuff like that. If it has to do with me writing things, it will be here. Just throwing out a heads-up.

College Kid

I've been in the college game for, what, three years? Well, the community college game. It's not as glamorous or full of hijinks as Community would lead one to believe. It's lame.
In high school, they told us that we could go to community college for two years, knocking out our gen-eds close to home and saving a ton of money. I know that I've saved thousands upon thousands by doing just that, but honestly, if I'd had the opportunity to go straight to university out of high school, I would have.
It's taken me three years of commuting, taking classes that I didn't want to take (hello, Sociology 101), and waiting around, but I'm finally heading off into a proper collegiate wonderland in August. Definitely expect lots of enthusiasm and stuff about decorating my dorm room (yes, I'll be moving into a dorm; yes, I'm stoked) and things like that.
But that wasn't the point of this.
Right, I've been going to community college for three years, and one of those years has been spent waiting. I'm not working on my major, or toward transfer units (I got all of those done in two years, with the exception of one class I had to take over the summer because my critical thinking class did not count as a critical thinking class), or anything. Last semester, I took drawing and Italian because they seemed fun. This semester, I'm taking a class on evolution, astronomy, and geology because I freaking love science.
I'm not the only one who's had trouble with the whole two-years-and-you're-good issue, either. Two of my friends, one of whom doesn't even attend the same school, are still working toward their transfer units. And, while a lot of my friends are having that problem, they're the most directly relevant because we talk about this stuff, okay?
Just know that if you are a high school kid looking at college, community college is a good choice. A really good choice. Just know that it will almost certainly take more than those two years you were promised. I'm not sure if I just had trouble, but I found out that you can't even apply to a school without all of those units down, and you have to apply a full year ahead. That is what's going to get you.
Just smile, work as hard as you can to get done, and take advantage of cheap for-fun classes while you wait, is all I'm saying. That's my take-away, and it ought to be yours too.

Rebel Rebel

In case you haven't paid as much attention as you normally should through the week, it's Monday. But you should also know by now that Mondays around here are marvelous. If you didn't know this, head right over here and change that.

This week's theme: breaking fashion rules!

I'm sure I do this all the time, because let's face it, most fashion rules are straight-up silly. They're too constricting, whether or not you're a fat girl, and they're not much fun.

I mean, come on—don't wear horizontal stripes? That's absurd! I am a strong supporter of the horizontal striped look because you can look like an Elvis Presley-type jailbird, a pirate, or a sailor. Or all three at the same time! What's not to love about horizontal stripes?

Of course, the reasoning behind this is that they make you look bigger. Which is silly. Just as silly as clothes that are designed to "flatter" and "conceal trouble areas." Because that toga-like tee-shirt is going to fool everyone into thinking I'm a size two, I'd imagine.

I'm also pretty sure that one of the fat-girl fashion rules is that we shouldn't wear short skirts, but my new slogan may just become "Short skirts fo' life, yo." It just feels right.

So, hopefully, I've broken two rules with this one amazing dress. I absolutely love it and can't believe I haven't worn it yet. Though, truth be told, I actually wore it out into the world yesterday, where I was accosted by wind. Not fun. No, today was spent baking a cake and some cupcakes for Casey's birthday, and I did all of that in my pajamas.

I love low backs like this, I really, really do.

Hooray, Dolphins!

Just kidding, dolphins are mean. They're straight-up bullies. The irony here, though, is that once I'm done with my paperwork and giving my school all my money (ouch), I'll be a Dolphin. The capitalization matters here, as I've come to learn that Dolphins are much nicer than dolphins.

I went to an event at the school I'm transferring to, accompanied by my mom, aunt, and uncle. It was sort of a tour, sort of a bunch of workshops, and sort of wonderful. It's an absolutely beautiful campus, and they have a fantastic science program, and the library. It's gorgeous.

I'm just very excited, okay?

We ended up exploring quite a lot, checking out the dorms I'll be staying at, and buying lots of stuff with school spirit. I feel a bit bad that I don't have anything school-spirit-y from my current school, unless you count school ID, but whatever. I can draw a cougar on something if I feel the need for community college spirit.

Also, I ended up accidentally matching my sunglasses to my sweater, and I really liked that.

Finally, I forgot to take pictures on campus (oops), but I'll be going back in June, and I'm sure obsessive picture-taking will be enforced.

No one in my family would let me leave the bookstore without buying at least one thing, so I got three. Ha.

Just a Bit Shady

Casey and I wandered all around town on Thursday. We each got a haircut (I desperately needed a trim), talked to someone about maybepossiblyhopefully getting a job (how many appendages can I cross at once?), and did our usual farmer's market thing. Just with more delicious tacos from our usual papusa place.

We did discover this mini mall, which was finally open when we were around, and decided to check it out. There are shops in the absolute very front, but once you pass that little area, it's absolutely deserted, and maybe more than a bit creepy. I love it, though. I love places like that are maybe a bit shady, perhaps a bit grotty, and full of mediocre-quality things that are only a dollar.

This week's theme: maxi skirts or dresses!

You know how I totally play favourites with items of clothing? Today was no exception. I love this skirt.  I paired it with boots and a jacket, effectively covering most of my body and keeping me safe from this ridiculous dust storm my town's been caught in. It's absurdly windy, and everything smells like dirt, and you can barely see for all the dust outside. It's like a brown fog, but more...particulate.

My mom and I braved the Dust Bowl-like outside world to get groceries. In the brief minutes between house and car, it already felt like I was coated in the stuff.

Not pleasant.

Hopefully, the others have had nicer weather.

Charlie likes to roll all over the floor to get my attention.

Lust List: Adventure Gear

I'm overly excited about going to Sedona next month, and so is my mom. Well, mostly, she's excited about maxi dresses. I, however, just want a bunch of sundresses and boots with good traction and backpacks. That's my ideal adventure gear. I mean, I wore a dress in Yellowstone. Skirts don't alter my Girl Scout abilities.

Don't worry, though, I also plan on sneakers and shorts and tee-shirts. And that cool coral tee with the studs? I may just try my hand at DIYing that.

Truth be told, though? I probably won't get much of a chance at hiking or anything, but I'm excited nonetheless. I've been to Arizona, but never to Sedona. I hear it's really cool, though.

I dunno, I think I'm just getting a bit stir-crazy.

Breakfast Burritos and Naps

Guess what, guys: it's Monday! Awww yeah. It's marvelous.

Our philosophy is this: Monday is nobody's favourite day of the week, but maybe its terrible reputation is a little undeserved. We're on a mission to make ours (and hopefully yours) a little less awful by dressing marvelously!

This week's theme: something we have trouble styling.

I have a whole bunch of things in my closet and dresser that I don't wear much anymore, unfortunately. Tops, sweaters, leggings. A lot of leggings. I'm really not one for them anymore. But when I pulled out this denim dress, I knew that the leggings would come out of hiding. I have trouble trying to find a way to wear them in a way that I like, and that fits my current aesthetic, and I think it totally worked out.

It's all cause of the boots, man.

This is what I wore to get up way too early to run errands with my mom after my rotten cat woke me up at 3:51 in the morning by climbing on a panel of fabric on my wall. Le sigh.

It was worth it, though—I got a breakfast burrito, and then I came home and took a nap.

This is my spring break, and I'm so okay with that.

Down the Bunny Trail

I ended up joining in some Easter festivities. You know, getting up early, getting (overly) dressed up for a play thing a family friend was in, and taking a nap shortly after coming back home. But, between the play and nap, I did have an egg-salad sandwich, and what says Easter like egg-salad?
I'll tell you what, nothing.
Except the delicious pastel rainbow cake I made last night.
