Best Kind of Party

I'll be the first to admit that the best kind of party is a pizza party. The second best is definitely a pattern party. This is one of those combinations that would make my mom shake her head and call me absurd or something, and let me tell you, it's one of those combinations that I'm kind of really fond of. It's both girly and gentlemanly, and it's a little ridiculous. And we all know that I like the ridiculous. I mean, look at the title of this blog!
I know I'm getting really out of practice with the ways of the OOTD, to the point where I am honestly having a bit of trouble figuring out cute, new outfits with all of my existing stuff. So bear with me as I sort of feel my way back into something like regular blogging, okay? I'm trying, guys, I promise.

Sweater: Forever 21 | Dress: eShakti | Shoes: Marshall's | Sunglasses, errings: Claire's
And, yes, I'm still trying to get used to using a tripod. It's a work in progress. That's a thing. Also, I've just noticed what out cats have done to the screen of that window. Pests.

Saddle Shoes of Death

So it turns out that I'm really bad at posting every day. Or regularly at all. These are things we all learn.
I finally went out and took pictures, though, which I count as a victory. There were people down the street, and they could see me taking pictures of myself with my tripod and everything. But I persevered.
It's a little silly that I haven't taken a picture of this outfit yet, considering how often I wear it and how much I like it. But then, I haven't taken many pictures of outfits at all in the past few months. Sorry about that. I am still on various places on the internet, though! It's amazing how much time a person can spend sleeping, or knitting, or playing Portal. I am perpetually amazed.
How has your year been so far?

Please, someome tell my hair to stop doing what it's doing and
just cooperate.

And I am so, so, so behind on all of my bog reading. I know how I'm gonna spend the next week! I miss you all dearly, and I need to actually stay caught up on stuff.

Over the Top

So, wow, I am really, really, really behind on Marvelous Mondays. I formally apologize, and offer up this post on a Wednesday. I'm going to do them all this week, and hopefully one day I'll get a shot outside! I think we all fail to understand just how gorgeous my campus is.
The first theme I'm behind on is Over the Top. While I'm occasionally a bit of an obnoxious dresser, I generally tend towards more simplistic looks. I think I'm turning into a minimalist. I wore this obnoxious pattern party with much more low-key accessories. I was so excited when I woke up this morning and it was cold outside! I've been waiting to wear this sweater since I put it away for the summer.

Sweater, collared top, dangly earrings: Forever 21 | Dress (worn underneath): Image | Leggings: WalMart | Boots: Forever | Cuff: Vintage | Headband: Christmas present | Necklace: Claire's | Studs (worn later): Mudd
And my mom sent Halloween decorations in her last care package! While we haven't gotten around to hanging up some of the cooler ones yet, we have started decorating. One of my roommates even brought these cool Olvera Street guys to hang out with some leaves and stuff.
And finally, I wrote a short article about my love of biology and the importance of education for a local environmental group. Maybe go check it out?

Making Statements

As I'm sure you're all aware, today's Monday! That means that it's actually Marvelous Monday, of course, because we deserve it.
This week's theme: statement jewelry!
I got this necklace for a dollar months and months ago, and I think I've only worn it once. That's a tiny bit disappointing, as I really like it. I finally busted it out today, though!
Now, I'm going to continue melting a little (summer in the desert is horrible, guys) and think about taking a nap.
And I'm switching up my photos a bit by taking them in the Cat Room, mostly because my own room is sort of a kittentopia right now.

Turquoise

Hey, guys, it's Monday, and you know what that means! Right? Well, you should know by now that it's Marvelous Monday! Yeah!
This week's theme: favourite colour!
You've all seen pictures of my room, or, at least a couple different pieces of it. Nearly everything in my room is a shade of blue or, more specifically, turquoise. That's because it's my favourite, of course. I mean, look at my blog.
Anyway, that was only part of the reason for my outfit. The rest is that Casey and I decided to go out to the Boulevard, braving the 100+ degree weather in pursuit of pupusas. That was so worth it, as was the trip to the antique store and the coffee shop. I ended up getting this fantastic, cheesy little cookbook from the antique store, too! It was published in 1953 by Edison, so a huge portion is just touting "The Electric Kitchen!" It's also big on the whole classic '50s housewife thing, but it does look like it'll at least be a bit useful, and it's cute, so that's totally worth it. Plus, it was dirt cheap, and I guess I'm collecting old books now.
Aww yiss.
Anyway, clothes! Right! I donned this outfit because this dress is 100% cotton, and thus much cooler than most other clothes I own. I also decided to do something interesting with it, and this shirt has made its triumphant return!
Thanks, Casey!

Casey's favourite shot of me. I don't recall what's
happening here.

My charming photographer. Ugh.

This thing is just so fantastic.

Now, let's go find out what the others' favourite colours are!

Summer Uniform

I discovered this outfit in Sedona, and I've since worn it more times than I'm sure sure is acceptable for a blogger, but whatever.
I've also realised that I like the lighting in my mom's sewing room the cats' room, and while I had a bit of trouble with a chair/my face, I might end up shaking things up a bit and presenting a new background on occasion. Lucky us!
Also, sorry for the wrinkly quality of my dress, I'd just pulled it out of my laundry basket so I could be clothed for a trip to the 99 Cent Store.
Whoops, chair.

Whoops, talking to my mom.

The Most Human Colour

Guys! It's Marvelous Monday again! Go here to find out just what that is if you're new here.
This week's theme: monochromatic!
I'm a sucker for some monochrome, guys. It's not that it's put-together or endlessly in style (the colours may change, the idea doesn't), or anything like that. I just like cohesive schemes and themes, and there's nothing like some monochromatic clothes to make theme dressing less costumey and more fashion-y.
I could have gone for some classic black and white, but I chose a slightly different route. I'm shaking things up a bit and playing with a different colour entirely.
It's no secret that blue's my favourite colour, is it? Because it is. And let me tell you, I really enjoyed wearing it from neck to toe. Even if I just wore it for some grocery shopping.

Opals forever!

Get Your Life Sorted!

Hooray! It's Marvelous Monday Wednesday! This would have gone up on Monday, but I was traveling from Sedona to Tucson, so today it is. If you're new here and don't know what Marvelous Monday is (even if it's on a Wednesday), go right over here and learn things.
This week's theme: inspired by each other!
The subtheme: inspired by Sian!
Hopefully, you all are very well aware that Sian is pretty awesome. Let's look through some of her stellar outfits:

Seriously, her style is too cool. She mixes tough black with crazy colours, punches up otherwise drab pieces with her own signature studded tough-girl thing, and has green hair. If anything else is necessary in life, then I don't know what it is anymore, I'm too enthralled by Sian's gorgeous hair.
Here's my take:
This jacket, much like Sian, makes everything tough and I like
that.

Sterling silver and (real!) opal earrings for twelve bucks from
Sedona!

Lipstick is Rimmel, Lasting Finish by Kate, in 04.
Top, jacket: Forever 21 | Skirt: made by mom | Leggings: WalMart | Boots: Forever | Earrings: Sedona
I hereby formally apologize for the state of my bed and my hair. I mean, I'm not even unpacked yet, guys. I've been sleeping and taking finals. It will all be better next time, I promise.
Anyway, go check out some inspiring and inspired ladies!

Back in the Day

Guess what: it's Marvelous Monday! If you're new, go here and learn more.
This week's theme: inspired by a childhood picture!
I'm a nostalgic person, and I take pictures of everything. I also occasionally put those things into scrapbooks, but that mild obsession mostly died out in middle school. Now I use one of those Smash books, and it's slowly filling with fortunes, movie tickets, and random little notes. One of these days, though, I'll add photos.
Anyway, I'm pretty sure nostalgia is genetic, as there are so many pictures of me back when I was a kid. My first eight years or so are very well documented. It was no trouble finding a picture, but it was a bit troublesome to find an outfit to base around it.
Whatever.
The outfit works, and in the picture, I'm eating cake. It was my birthday party, though I don't remember which. Regardless, I don't have cake now, and I really prefer cheesecake, so I've posed myself doing something I did all through childhood, something that I still do now.
Reading.
Yup. I was that dorky little kid spinning around in circles for way too long, reading while walking, and pretending I was Sailor Moon. Now, I still walk around with my nose in a book, but I've given up on spinning for days and playing pretend. You have to make room for things when you grow up, like watching Doctor Who and continually craving pupusas.
The inspiration. I'm so charming.

The Metal Woman

It's Marvelous Monday, guys, so I went and put some clothes on. If you're new to Marvelous Monday, head here to learn more.
This week's theme: metallics!
The Three Laws of Robotics are:

  1. A robot may not injure a human being or, through inaction, allow a human being to come to harm.
  2. A robot must obey the orders given to it by human beings, except where such orders would conflict with the First Law.
  3. A robot must protect its own existence as long as such protection does not conflict with the First or Second Laws.
Metallics always make me think of robots and cheesy science fiction movies and TV shows. I painted my nails with a new chrome nail polish today ("No Place Like Chrome" from Essie), and they totally make me think of Cybermen from the 60s. I'm not even sorry.
I also brought metallics in with my bag, and my cool shark tooth necklace, and my headband. In case you couldn't tell. You're welcome.

Not-so-gratuitious face shot?
Dress, earrings: Forever 21 | Necklace: Charming Charlie | Bag: Target | Headband: WalMart (probably) | Shoes: Payless
Let's go see how the others styled their metallic looks! I'm sure they were stellar, and certainly infinitely less nerdy than me. Also, don't forget to congratulate L, who got married this weekend! Congrats, L!

Transluscent

Anyway, it's another Marvelous Monday! I know! If you don't know what that is, go right here and learn.
This week's theme: sheer tops.
I have a handful, actually. Those great collared tops I wear? All sheer. At least vaguely so. I usually wear camisoles underneath, but I've recently discovered just how much I love layering. I was going to layer one of those tops under this dress, but then I remembered Sian's outfit from a recent Marvelous Monday. More specifically, the top. I've worn it before, as you all know, but I guess I've forgotten all about it.
Either way, this is what I wore to get citrus fruits and a mocha that wasn't really a mocha at all. There was caramel on it. I don't trust people who like caramel; they seem shifty.

Top, necklace, earrings: Forever 21 | Dress: WalMart | Belt: Fashionbug | Ring: Charming Charlie | Headband: Target | Bag: MulberryxTarget
Now, go check out the others' looks. I'm sure they are utterly fantastic, as always.

Going White

It's Monday again, and it's time to make it marvelous, yo. Run right over here if you're new to the wonderful world of Marvelous Mondays and learn to enjoy this.
This week's theme: an outfit inspired by a piece of art.
I didn't do much today, just a bit of shopping with my mom, though I did come away with a cool new backpack and new wallet (finally). Either way, I chose something fairly simple to emulate this gorgeous painting.
"When She Went White, She Went White"
by Kris Knight

Sorry about the blurriness.

Top, bangles: Forever 21 | Necklace: DIY | Skirt: mom's | Tights: WalMart | Shoes: Vans | Bag: Target
Now, go pay a visit to the others. I'm stoked to see what they've done, and I'm sure you are, too. Right?
Right.

Hooray, Dolphins!

Just kidding, dolphins are mean. They're straight-up bullies. The irony here, though, is that once I'm done with my paperwork and giving my school all my money (ouch), I'll be a Dolphin. The capitalization matters here, as I've come to learn that Dolphins are much nicer than dolphins.
I went to an event at the school I'm transferring to, accompanied by my mom, aunt, and uncle. It was sort of a tour, sort of a bunch of workshops, and sort of wonderful. It's an absolutely beautiful campus, and they have a fantastic science program, and the library. It's gorgeous.
I'm just very excited, okay?
We ended up exploring quite a lot, checking out the dorms I'll be staying at, and buying lots of stuff with school spirit. I feel a bit bad that I don't have anything school-spirit-y from my current school, unless you count school ID, but whatever. I can draw a cougar on something if I feel the need for community college spirit.
Also, I ended up accidentally matching my sunglasses to my sweater, and I really liked that.
Finally, I forgot to take pictures on campus (oops), but I'll be going back in June, and I'm sure obsessive picture-taking will be enforced.

Blouse, sweater: Forever 21 | Dress, tights: WalMart | Sunglasses: Tilly's | Ring: Charming Charlie | Shoes: DIY

No one in my family would let me leave the bookstore without buying at least one thing, so I got three. Ha.
