Outta the Park

I'm not 100% certain where that title came from.
Anyway, I'm going to do something absurd that that's knock out the last four days of the 30 Day Music Challenge. I know, I know. I think.
See, I'm starting Fatsion February tomorrow (hooray!) and I've decided to do only one thing at a time this time. Also, I'm sure you're all tired of random music videos cropping up.
Anyway.
Day 27: a song I wish I could play. That's "Jilly Armeen" by Jamie T.
Day 28: a song that makes me feel guilty. Well, this song makes me feel guilty only because I feel bad about feeling really disappointed in this band. That's a long story that doesn't need to be delved into, but here ya go. "Beautiful Machine" by Party At Her Place.
Day 29: a song from my childhood. I could have gone for Britney Spears, or "Mambo No. 5" or something, but I chose the theme song to my favourite show. Awwww yeah.
And finally, Day 30: my favourite song this time last year. Simple. "Jesus" by Brand New, but the one from the Daisy sessions. Best ever.
Hooray!
Okay, so, see you tomorrow, guys!

Lust List: Ear Decor

It's no secret that my ears aren't pierced. I know, I know.
Anyway, I have plans to get my hair basically cut off soon, and everyone in my life agrees: if I'm going to get a pixie cut, I have to get my ears pierced so I can wear cute earrings. And I've finally decided that, when I finally get the pixie (I've been saying that this is happening since last June, but now I'm determined), I will put additional holes in my ears. It's either happening in March, or tomorrow, depending on a handful of things. If it doesn't happen tomorrow, then I might make a post basically composed of pixie cut pictures.
Long story made shorterish, here's a collection of earrings I like, okay?

(Once) Master Flautist

So, my life is boring. Still.
All I've done lately is write, watch my cat fly around the living room (almost literally, sometimes), and sleep. And that is precisely how it should be.
Anyway, today's musical challenge is quick and easy. That would be: a song I can play on an instrument!
You all should know that, if you give me a piano, glockenspiel, or a xylophone, I will play "Happy Birthday To You" and "Twinkle Twinkle Little Star." Every. Single. Time. They're basically all I know how to play. I used to play the flute, and I used to be quite good at it, but that was years ago and I've since given it to my aunt.
So...
Yeah.
As a consolation prize, here's one of the songs I've been listening to way too much lately. Enjoy. Or don't.

O' the Day

Today's song is one that makes me laugh. The first time I heard it, I fell in love and went raking across the internet to find it. Of course, I found it pretty quickly, and since then I've listened to it far more times than I'm sure is socially acceptable.
That song would be "Poisoning Pigeons in the Park" by Tom Lehrer.

Lust List: Professional Adult

I say this often, and I'm about to say it again: I need a job. I'm taking all online classes this semester, which means that I need a job to kill time. In addition to a job's money-making capabilities, of course.
Anyway, I've been working on a resume, ensuring that my closet is at least vaguely job-appropriate, asking if people are hiring, and (of course) looking online for grown-up clothes.
I can't help thinking that calling professional attire grown-up clothes defines my whole life.
Anyway, I compiled a bunch of clothes that I think (hope) would be acceptable in the grown-up world of making money. I also threw in some cool jewelry because, well, what's life without whimsy? Or that amazing collar necklace thing?
You'd hire me, right?

Round and Round

So, today I did a lot of things. Namely, I got dressed, took way too many pictures of my face and my new favourite sunglasses, played favourites with my jackets, and drove. In traffic. A lot.
Yeah.

Jacket, top: Forever 21 | Skirt: Fashion Bug | Tights: WalMart | Boots: Forever | Sunglasses: Image
And, you know, music task of the day: a song I want at my funeral. I'm actually really glad that I wrote this up after driving; otherwise, it would feel like tempting fate. Even if I did a pretty good job, thankyouverymuch.
The song is "The Lark Ascending," by Ralph Vaughan Williams. It's one of the most beautiful songs I've ever heard, so...yep.
Also, a quick note. Next month will be the wonderful Fatshion February, and it will officially be my third. I'll be posting here, and my tumblr, so you can't miss me wearing clothes in February. Let me know if you'll be joining me! It won't serve much purpose, but I like knowing.

Adventures in Nothing, Really

I just babysat my niece and nephew today, basically. So all I have to offer is today's song. That song would be one I want played at my wedding. That would be "The Book of Love," by Magnetic Fields.

Musical Catch-Up

I'm way behind. Let's make this quick, kay?
Day 19: A song off my favourite album. I chose "Bulldozer" by Cold War Kids, off Mine is Yours.
Day 20: A song I listen to when I'm angry. "Be Calm" by fun.
Day 21: A song I listen to when I'm happy. I'm not sure, I listen to a lot of generally cheerful stuff. So, uh, I'll just pick a song I like. "Lalita" by The Love Language.
Day 22: A song I listen to when I'm sad. If you're in a drizzly mood, go listen to "Generator" by The Holloways. This is honestly one of the sweetest, happiest, cheeriest songs in the universe, I swear.

Trente

So today ends 30x30 for me! I don't have  a good outfit shot, but you can use your imagination and a couple of shots I took today.
Casey and I had (yet another) mall adventure. Not only did we wander and buy stuff, we also went to a matinee showing of The Hobbit. And yep, I still really love Martin Freeman.
Today is also my mom's birthday, and we celebrated by going out to dinner.
So...
Yeah!

Sometimes, Casey and I take normal pictures.
This was not one of those times.

That's it, I need a captain's hat. I look fantastic in it.
30x30 Items:
Dress: Forever 21
Other stuff:
Jacket, shoes: Forever 21 | Necklace: Claire's | Camisole: Old Navy | Tights: WalMart

Ventinove

I went driving today, which was only mildly terrifying, thankyouverymuch.
So, real quick: here's what I wore.
30x30 Items:
Tee: Lane Bryant | Skirt: ASOS Curve
Other stuff:
Shoes, jacket: Forever 21 | All jewelry: Charming Charlie | Tights: WalMart | Sunglasses: Tilly's | Bag: MulberryxTarget
Now, I've got three days worth of music tasks to catch you up on. Not sorry.
A song I used to love but now hate: "Some Nights" by fun. I love the song, but I just really hate that Autotune chunk in the middle.
A song I often hear on the radio: I don't know, uh, something by One Direction? I don't listen to radio much, or whatever. I'm lame.
And finally, a song I wish I heard on the radio: "Santa Ana Winds" by Cold War Kids. Solely for the fact that I love them, okay?

Ventotto

I'm coming down with yet another cold, which sucks.
Nevertheless, I braved the world with Erika and a whole bunch of cough drops. We went to our Chinese restaurant, wandered a bit, got cupcakes, and watched an open mic performance.
Now that I'm home, I'm playing "Miracle Mile" on repeat. It's gotten to a slightly obnoxious point, probably, but you know. Can't stop, won't stop.

Erika demanded a tea photo. I was happy to oblige.
30x30 Items:
Dress, blazer: Forever 21
Other stuff:
Necklace, bangles: Charming Charlie | Tights: WalMart | Shoes: Vans
And, today's song is one that describes me. I had trouble with this one, but I think, after a lot of careful consideration, I've found the perfect song.

Unexpectedly

Today's music task is a song that no one would expect me to love. I chose "Stupid Boy" by T. Mills. His music is generally more crass than anything I listen to, but I think that 70% of why I love his music is because I like him as a person. I've met him three times, and every time, he's been nothing but sweet to me. I love it. I also love the fact that my niece laments the fact that I've met him and she hasn't, even though I'm not sure how I feel about her listening to his music.
I don't know, it's just not something I ordinarily would listen to, so I think that makes it unexpected. Although, once, I was talking to a friend about punk music, and it absolutely shocked her that I really love it. So, that begs the question: what on earth do people think I listen to?
And, because I can, I'm posting a picture of me with him. Revel in it, and the giant bug bite on the side of my nose. I was covered in bites that summer. It wasn't any fun. The show, however, was.

Ventisette

I wore clothes while going on a short little jaunt into the world. That jaunt would be WalMart.
Also, this dress gives me hardcore VBO, but that's okay, because it's still perfect. Even if you can't see the flawlessness under the coat. I am so tired of this cold snap.
30x30 Items:
Dress: Avon
Other stuff:
Coat: Ross | Flats: Ross | Messy room: kids and cat combined
And today's musical task is a guilty pleasure. I guess this one would be it since I don't really listen to pop, and I guess I cultivate the image of someone who, well, doesn't listen to pop. But sometimes, you have to. Of course, most of my love for this song is due to the fact that I love Ingrid Michaelson, but that is irrelevant.
And, while this isn't directly related to, well, anything, I thought I'd share the new Cold War Kids single. I want it to be my theme song.

Ventisei

I went to a show for the first time in way too long. I really love going to shows, and I can only hope that I get to go more often this year.
It's funny, because I often see people (girls specifically) talking about "how ridiculous it is when girls dress like they're going to a tea party." Guys, I'm that girl. I dress the way I normally dress, just with a bit more thought. I always wear comfy shoes, a ponytail, a crossbody bag, and clothes that can and will be tossed into a washing machine. Other than that, who cares? (I basically dressed like I was going to a tea party at the last show anyway, so...)
Besides, everyone knows that the only clothing faux pas at a show is wearing a shirt with the name of one of the bands that's playing, unless you bought it at the show. Just saying.
Anyway, long story short, I wore clothes to a show and survived the show.
I miss this!
30x30 Items:
Tee: Old Navy | Skirt: Fashion Bug
Other stuff:
Jacket, shoes: Forever 21 | Tights: WalMart | Bag: MulberryxTarget
Also, this got surprisingly rant-y. Sorry, guys. I love everyone who goes to shows, regardless of what they wear, okay?
And yesterday's music task was a band that I hate. And, okay, that feels a bit mean, but, uh, okay. Can I just say that I really, really dislike Vampires Everywhere!? Is that allowed? Cause it's true.
So.
Yeah.

Blah

Another lazy day. I'm surprisingly all right with that, though. I've been hustling to work on transferring sooner rather than later (fingers and toes crossed!), so at least I did something today.
Today's music task is a song by my favourite band. That would be Cold War Kids, but you already knew that. I thought I'd go for an oldie but a goodie, off their first album. I have two different versions of "Hospital Beds", and I really can't get over how fantastic it is. Still.
If you haven't filled your life with Cold War Kids yet, I highly suggest you do so immediately.

Venticinque

I wear this sweater way too often.
Another thing I did today: practically clean out the 99 Cent Store of their candy, with the help of Casey. It was worth it, for the sea salt dark chocolate, and the hazelnut chocolate seashells.
30x30 Items:
Sweater: thrifted | Skirt: Fashion Bug | Top (underneath): Forever 21
Other stuff:
Bag: MulberryxTarget | Sunglasses: Charming Charlie | Flats that you can't see: Payless
Also: today's music challenge. It's a song that makes me sleepy. That would be "Gymnopedie No. 1."

Saturday, January 12, 2013

Let's Jam

So, no outfit today. Just a song.
Today's song is one that I can dance to. I chose "Let's Dance to Joy Division" by The Wombats. Just listen and have an aural party.

Friday, January 11, 2013

Ventiquattro

Today's adventure was just WalMart and a lot of TV. Though, to be fair, more than an hour of TV counts as a lot to me. I basically only watch three shows right now, and two of them are on hiatus.
Anyway.
Yeah.
Southern California is currently being hit in the face by a cold snap, so I'm thinking that I won't be going out in to the world tomorrow. Of course, there's no telling, but that's irrelevant, or something.
30x30 Items:
Sweater: thrifted | Dress: WalMart
Other stuff:
Tights: WalMart | Flats (not pictured (sorry)): Payless
Also, today's music task is a song that I know all the words to. There are a handful, but I recently discovered that I somehow learned all the words to Leonard Cohen's "Hallelujah," which I am completely okay with.

Spongebob Squarepants!

Today's music task is a song that reminds me of an event. Casey and I went to Warped Tour the summer before last, and it was fantastic. Even if I came out of it with a third-degree sunburn. In spite of my sunscreen.
Anyway, one of the bands we saw was Less Than Jake, and I love them immensely. They played a small handful of cartoon theme songs, gave a girl a mohawk (for her birthday), and just made the day an awesome one.
Best. Day. Ever.
(Among many, of course.)

Ventitre

Also known as: 30x30, Timbuktu Timbuktu edition.
Sorry, I'm just really over-the-moon about the new episode of Cabin Pressure.
Here, have an outfit to make up for my enthusiasm.

30x30 Items:
Dress: eShakti | Top: thrifted
Other stuff:
Necklace: Claire's | Belt, tights: WalMart | Shoes: Forever 21
Apparently, I'm really fond of layering tops and sweaters over this dress. I am completely fine with that, it's such a perfect print that it works, I think.
Oh, and my music thing! Today's is a song that reminds me of somewhere. I chose this song because it was on the radio constantly as we were driving through Yellowstone over the summer (I'm talking every other song), so it's no surprise that it makes me think of Yellowstone now.
It's "Someone That I Used to Know" by Gotye. (I also happen to like this song, so it's no trouble on my part.)

Tuesday, January 8, 2013

Ventidue

Surprise! I wore things that aren't pajamas today! We went to WalMart for cat food and dessert, and I got to break in my new jacket. Yep, thank everything for Christmas money.
Also, I've gotten Casey into Cabin Pressure. This feels good, guys. Mostly because there's a new episode tomorrow. Hooray for Timbuktu!
30x30 Items:
Top: Torrid | Skirt: Fashion Bug
Other stuff:
Jacket, clutch: Forever 21 | Flats: Payless

(Another) Lazy Day

When Casey spends the week at my house, we just spend all our time sitting around, either watching movies or living on the internet.
We are completely fine with this, thanks.
Anyway, today's music challenge is a song that reminds me of someone. Since Casey's currently in the room, I'll go for a song that reminds me of her. It's basically the anthem of our friendship, since we sing it all the time, whether or not is socially appropriate. I think one of our best moments was a spontaneous rendition in Home Depot.
Awww, yeah.

Monday, January 7, 2013

Another Lazy Day

If I keep this up, I might just win an award for Laziest Human. Except I did register for classes, so there's that. Four science classes (yesss) and an art class. Perfect.
Anyway, here's today's music selection. It's a song that makes me sad, which just so happens to be "Fur Alina." It's also one of the prettiest songs, I think.

Sunday, January 6, 2013

Movie Day

No outfit today, just movies with Casey.
But anyway, you get Day 3 of 30 Days of Music. Today's is a song that makes me happy!
I love Ludo, almost more than life itself. And while most of their songs make me happy, this one is so ostentatiously so cheerful, so "Get up, dust yourself off, and smile cause you're gonna win." It's perfect.
"Battle Cry" by Ludo. Enjoy this.

Saturday, January 5, 2013

Ventuno

A mall day with Casey today. She's spending a few nights at my house, and we've basically been spending all of our time watching bad infomercials on the Smithsonian channel. And the shows, of course, for their educational value.
Anyway, I have TARDIS socks now. My life is complete.

30x30 Items:
Dress: WalMart | Shirt: thrifted
Other stuff:
Necklace, belt: Fashion Bug | Bag: Target | Tights: Hue | Shoes: Vans | Ring: BOOLVD
(Check out Dani and Jess and enjoy that, okay?)

Also: Day 2 of 30 Days of Music. Today's challenge: my least favourite song. Oh.
I had trouble with this, but then I heard the song today and that just reminded me how strongly I dislike it, for no particular reason. So... Yeah.
It's "Drop It Like It's Hot" by Snoop Dogg.

Friday, January 4, 2013

Venti

I'm still all sorts of sniffly, but I took some cold medicine and decided to brave the world with Erika today. We exchanged Christmas presents, got lunch at our new favourite Chinese place, and rung in the new year almost a week late with mini bottles of apple cider from the dollar store.
All in all, it was a good day.

30x30 Items:
Sweater: thrifted | Skirt: ASOS Curve
Other stuff:
Necklace: Hot Topic (gift from Casey) | Bag: Target | Flats: Payless
My gift from Erika is a teapot...
...stuffed with candy. These are all things that I like, and this is why we're friends.

Thirty Days of Music

The lovely Sian of Sort Life Out; Buy Milk is doing this challenge, and I was inspired.
I love music, I really do. Live, recorded, it doesn't matter. I am very invested in my town's music scene, though not as much as I used to be (which sucks, but life gets in the way). It's a diverse pot of noise, and even though there are some genres I don't care for, I like almost all of them live.
Long story short, I'm joining in this challenge too. I know, I know, two thirty-day challenges at once! Madness!
That's just how I roll.
Anyway, the first song on the list is an easy, obvious one: my favourite song.
For years, I had another song at the top of the ranks, but once Cold War Kids came out with Mine is Yours, every song ever pales in comparison to me.
"Out of the Wilderness" by Cold War Kids.
Welp, that's Day One sorted.
Okay then.

Goals and Whatnot

I'm not really a resolution-y person, because I know that they basically fall apart immediately. I make them too big, too drastic, too quickly, and they're never things I actually enjoy.
So this year, I'm just going to share a couple of goals and, I dunno, ideals with you guys. I thought you might enjoy that. And if you don't, well... Okay.

  1. Finally get my driver's license. I got my permit, and it doesn't expire until July. I need to get some more driving in and then I can finally be an actual driver and a real grown-up (or something).
  2. Get a job, or do something that makes money. I don't particularly want a real job in retail or whatever. Ideally, I'd be able to write and earn money for that, but I'd take what I could get, honestly. I am so tired of being broke. Ugh.
  3. Transfer. If I do transfer to Maine, that'll be around August. If I go somewhere in California, it won't be this year, unfortunately. So this one might not be as easy to accomplish (hideously enough).
  4. Finish my Big Project. I've been working on it for a couple of years now, but I've been really inspired in the last few months and have been working with it more closely than ever. It's a silly thing to mention so vaguely right now, but it's my baby, I guess, and I want to wait. (Sorry).
  5. Donate/rid myself of things that I simply don't wear. I've gotten more and more clothes this past year that I actually wear and enjoy, but now my closet is choked with things that I don't wear. This'll be the year that sees those things leave my closet (finally).
  6. Travel more. This one is the most difficult of all, since I don't have much money to spend on things like this. Nor do I have a car. Or a license to drive one. But I just really want to spend some time somewhere else, I guess. I'm habitually under the influence of wanderlust, and I'd like to indulge in it a bit this year.
  7. Do more projects and post about them. Even if I'm not the craftiest creature in the herd, or if I'm not the best at nail art, or whatever, I really like doing projects. So I should do more, right? Right. Easy enough.
So, yeah. My goals, and little bits of what's going on in my life.
What are your goals, if you have any?

Diciannove

Today was dull. Just some errands, basically.
And now that I have worn clothes and gone out into the world (and blogged about it), I'm off to sleep this cold away. That's all I ever want to do when I'm sick. Well, that, and drink scalding hot tea. That one will have to wait, though.

30x30 Items:
Tee: Old Navy | Skirt: mom's
Other stuff:
Sunglasses, collar: Charming Charlie | Bag: Target | Tights: WalMart | Shoes: Vans
The thing about this tee-shirt is that I really, really want to wear it to the Long Beach Aquarium. And stand in front of the hanging blue whale and have pictures taken of both the whale, and me in my whale tee, and it would be a whale of a good time.
And that's why you should never discuss clothes under the influence of a cold, guys. Things get a little weird.
(As ever, go check out Dani and Jess and be happy.)
