Get Excited...

Join me, Jess, and Dani for this awesome thing.

...because it's time for another 30x30!
That's right, lovely readers, it's time to return to your closets and get creative again. And excited. Ideally at the same time.
If you don't know what 30x30, it's simple. Choose thirty items of clothing and get creative with them for thirty days. You're only allowed those items for those thirty days, which makes it a challenge, and thus fun.
Because it's December and some of us are living through the cold weather that comes with that title, outerwear is not included in your list. I know, guys, we live to make your lives easier. Accessories (tights, jewelry, etc.) are not included either, nor are shoes. So, basically, it's just clothes.
Now, after that lengthy description of the challenge (I don't even know if it counts as that, but I like the word, so there you go), I will continue to explain different pieces of the challenge-thing.
Not everyone will start on the 1st and end on the 30th. You are, in fact, allowed to take days off. Wild, right? As long as you finish in a reasonable amount of time, you can live your life knowing you did it right.
If you're interested in joining us, you can post a link here to go in the sidebar. The sidebar will become a place of honor, simply because I think it ought to be. We'll make it a big thing. Just like last time.
So, go forth, my friends, and prepare yourselves for another 30x30!
Huzzuh!
(And in case you missed it, I'm not alone here: the ever-lovely Jess and Dani are in on it, too. Just sayin'.)

Color Me Helpful

Okay, so, I'm going back to school tomorrow. Which is rough (I have to get up early, and I am not meant for mornings. I'm just not), and awesome (Biology! Drawing!) at the same time. I'll be getting back to normal, with fairly regular outfit posts, so that's something we all can look forward to, I hope.
For my readers starting/going back to college tomorrow, or in the near future, here are some things you might find useful, whether your school is of the two-year, or the four-year variety:

  • Don't wear open-toed shoes in a lab. Any lab. Especially chemistry. You're just asking for amputation. (I will be ignoring this tomorrow, because I doubt I'll be spending much time in my bio lab. Such is the life of waitlisted students).
  • Don't wear heels or new, uncomfortable shoes until you know what to expect. You'd probably want to know how much walking you'll be doing to/from classes, how much time you have between classes (not all of us can run in heels. I can barely walk in them), how hilly your campus is, etc. You'll thank me for saving you from blisters and achy long-day feet.
  • On the first week, at least, you'll want a decently-sized bag. Something that can fit a bunch of notebooks and/or a binder. This seems like common knowledge, but trust me, it's absurdly easy to be caught off-guard with a bag that's just a little too small for all the stuff you have to carry.
  • Unless your campus has a uniform (do they even do that? I don't know), then seriously, you can pretty much wear whatever you want. Clothes are clothes, and unless you're wearing, like, a bikini, you're probably doing it right. My favourite part about going to school almost every day is honestly the fact that I have to get dressed every day. I'm not gonna lie: I spent most of the summer in my pajamas. I'm excited about getting to wear some of my new clothes, and some of my older stuff in new ways. Use this as an opportunity to get creative, or just live your life in sweats. Seriously, college isn't like high school: 90% of people really are there to learn, so what you're wearing will probably only barely cross anyone's mind. Have fun with it, or don't. Wear what you want.
  • Actual useful tip: if you're a commuter, one of the best things in life is an extra layer. Cardigan, coat, scarf, it doesn't matter. If it's made of cloth (or something along those lines. Whatever), and if you can safely bunch it up, you can use it as a pillow. Also, they're good for wearing when the commuter bus is way too cold to survive. Because seriously, that sucks. Even when it's still a hundred degrees out.
These are just useful little things that I've picked up in the past couple years. It really is all simple, common-knowledge stuff, and honestly, I think that the only thing that everyone ought to remember is that bit about labs, but I'm just trying to be helpful. I figured I'd impart my wisdom! Because, let's face it, I am terrifically wise.

Arnold Palmers on the Secret Menu

I spent today with Erika. And yesterday. And Monday. It's actually been a lot of fun, though, so don't count on me getting bored. We have some adventures planned for next week, too, so there's that to look forward to.
Today, we went to the mall, and oh dear everything, I should not have gone to the mall. I bought two dresses nothing of import from eShakti yesterday, and then quite a bit of stuff today. I got a great outfit that I can't wait to debut, though, some excellent heels, and a couple pairs of sunglasses. Oh, and two pairs of thigh-highs! I'm so excited because now I don't have to deal with tights all the time and one pair is black lurex, and that's reason enough to be thrilled, don't you think?
Also, for fun, I thought do do a What's In My Bag post. It's fun for me, at least. I don't even know.
What's in my bag at any given moment: camera (and case), learner's permit, wallet (from Avenue, years ago), notebook and pencil, house key, mirror, cell phone, lip balm (this one is huckleberry), and sunglasses (Claire's).
The wear is starting to show on my favourite bag.

I Like Sales

I recently read about a sale going on at eShakti, and I've heard nothing but good stuff about them, so I've decided to buy a dress. Mild crisis, though: which one? I am flailing around in a sea of flawless! Pleats and pockets and perfection, oh, my!
If you've got an opinion on which one I should get, please give it to me! Either that, or let me rely on people who will probably tell me not to buy anything first. They both work, I suppose.
Blue

Bow

Corset

Pearl

Flower

Butterfly
This is what my life has come to, I swear.
EDIT: The blue dress won. Yeah, buddy. It ought to be here next week, and I'm a happy person now.

Get Inspired IV

Guess who's coming home today!
If you guessed me, then you'd be correct. You're one smart cookie!
Here's the last installment of my little Get Inspired series. I hope you did exactly what the title told you to do and got all inspired and stuff and filled your lives with beautiful clothes.

Please note: I don't own any of these. I just found them on various websites and liked them. If you know where they came from, then please share!

Get Inspired II

Some more looks that are currently taking up space in both my hard drive and my brain. Can my closet just be full of pieces like these?

Please note: I don't own any of these. I just found them on various websites and liked them. If you know where they came from, then please share!

Get Inspired I

Let it be known that I love clothes. Actually, I think it's already pretty well known.
I feel like we're on the right track then.
I'm inspired by them. Right now, I'm particularly into high-low hems, floaty fabric, colours that "aren't really colours" according to my mom, pastels, pleats, collars, and leather. Oh, and interesting prints. I'm a sucker for a good print.
Here are some of the things that have been making my heart race lately:

Leopard Lady

Let's start this post off with an outfit.

Shirt: Sure Clothing | Necklace: vintage | Bangles: Forever 21 | Skirt: Forever 21 | Orange bracelet: Casey | Shoes: Payless | Sunglasses: Tilly's
Also: I clearly have a thing for Wet 'n' Wild makeup, since both my lipstick and my eyeliner are from them, not that you can see my eyeliner. It's purple. But you know, I do love their lipstick. I have, like, five different shades.
Anyway.
You'll notice that my room is still messy. I'll probably be that way till next Friday. I've been pretty busy lately, studying, doing homework, writing, taking buses and trains everywhere, and watching Doctor Who. This semester can't end soon enough.
So next month will see a couple of awesome things. First and foremost: Casey and I are going to Carpinteria for a few days, and my level of joy is beyond containing. Second: I'm joining in the 30x30 Remix. Go check out DIY Fatshion and Animated Cardigan for more information. It's pretty simple, though. You pick thirty items of clothing and remix them every day of the month. It's an awesome way to look at your clothes more creatively. I know I fall into that rut where I wear the same outfits every week. Well, with some variation. Anyway, I'm going to be posting daily, or as close as I can get to it. It'll be like Fa(t)shion February, except in June, and more closet-oriented.
Welp, that's it. I'm off to figure out my thirty items, and watch the rest of season four. Enjoy your Friday! Oh, and let me know in the comments if you're planning on participating in 30x30, too!

Flat Out Run

Let me tell you, today's outfit was not made for running. Skirts just laugh at you while you pound pavement, and you know that they are intentionally making you life suck.
Luckily, some lovely strangers held the bus for me.
Anyway, I just thought I should share my outfit today, which was weirdly...professional? I don't know, I wore a blazer.

Blouse: thrifted | Skirt: Fashion Bug | Blazer: Forever 21 | Necklace: Fashion Bug | Bangles: Forever 21 | Orange bracelet: Casey | Ring: vintage or something | Shoes: vintage, and six bucks, and obnoxiously comfortable | Sunglasses: Tilly's
I am disappointed in myself for not getting a better shot of these sunglasses, but rest assured, they are wonderful. Cat-eyes with a little rhinestone bow on one corner. I really ought to take a picture of my sunglasses collection one of these days, even though it's still pretty small. Whatever, I still love them.

Celebrate Your Mother.

Seriously, guys.
I'm also pretty sure you should be doing your field assignments instead of watching Benedict Cumberbatch be flawless Sherlock. Or maybe that's just me.
Anyway, here's what I wore on an exciting trip to the grocery store.

Dress: Ross | Sandals that you can barely see, unfortunately: Payless | Purse: Charlotte Russe | Sunglasses: Tilly's | Matryoshka necklace: Forever 21.
I just love this sweet little necklace! Everyone needs Russian nesting dolls in their lives, and on their necks.
Happy Mother's Day! Go bake your mom some cookies or lemon bars or something, and be her favourite child for the day.
Also, since it is Mother's Day: I love you , Mom! You've always been really good at hiding that cape, but we all know that you're a superhero. All of those good pieces of me come from you, I'm sure of it. So thank you for being half of my genetic code, and my favourite superhero. You really are the best.

We're Going to the Hukilau!

Not really. That's just a song that I was forced to dance to when I was a Girl Scout.
Since I probably won't be able to get a good outfit post till Thursday or so (and this is solely because I don't have a life), have a couple pictures of me and Casey being dweebs.

Let's ignore my face and the blurriness, okay? Let's just do that.
And, I guess this can count as an outfit post, so, uh... Yeah.
Flowers: Dollar Tree. Yeah. | Tee-shirt: Wal-Mart | Dress: Ross | Sandals: Payless | Sunglasses: Venice beach a while ago.
If I'm lucky, I might get to hang out with my friend Erika this afternoon, and if we're all lucky, I can show to you guys that I do, in fact, spend time with people who aren't related to me/Casey.
Oh, and random side note: I recently got an iProduct, and that means I have Instagram now. You can follow me if you like, just go pay a visit to starlithorizon.
And on another note: if you found me through my submission on Tumblr, then heeeeyyyy.
Okay, so I'm off to make a smoothie and put off doing my homework. Enjoy your Friday!

New Best Friend

That's right, everyone in my life has been usurped by this gem. I'm so excited, and I really cannot hide it.

I just need the weather to be flawless again so I can wear it.

Time to celebrate!

My best friend officially turned twenty on the 16th, and while I already got her a present, we didn't get the chance to celebrate. Today was her awesome birthday adventure. There was food (so much!), and a Friends of the Library sale, and wandering, and cupcakes with sparklers, and singing. I'd call it a success.
I don't even know how long we've been best friends for. Six years? I don't know. It's all good.
Real quick OOTD, too. We found a blue wall with some Astroturf, so I figured that that was as good a place as any for a picture.
Dress: Torrid | Sunglasses: Tilly's | Gold bangle: Claire's | Daisy necklace: Forever 21 | Bag: thrifted | Orange bracelet: gift from best friend above | Sandals: Payless
I hope everyone else had a gorgeous spring day and spent it outside!

Lust List

You know when you spend a little too much time online, and you get bored of all your favourite sites and you start window-shopping? It's simultaneously one of my favourite and least favourite things to do. I love looking at pretty things, finding cool new shoes or bags, seeing the awesome collections that your favourite sites have to offer...
Anyway, long story short, here are some things I'm listing after right now.
