Mix and Match

'Sup, guys. As you may well know, today's Monday! You know what that means! And if you don't: it's Marvelous Monday, and you can find out just what that's supposed to mean right over in this direction.
This week's theme: pattern mixing!
Now, if life was a bit lovelier, I'd be able to wear my heart sweater, but alas, I live in the desert. Which is currently made of lava (and fire, actually, although I'm fairly certain the Powerhouse Fire has finally been contained). Not fun.
So instead, I've had to make do with this. And that's okay.

Top: thrifted | Skirt: mom | Headband, bangles: Forever 21
Just because. Also, I really love Roranicus Pondicus.
And this week, I've gotten into a new hobby. Like, of of nowhere. I've been embroidering for the past two days, and things might be getting a little weird. Whatever, I love learning new things!

Anyway, enough about me and my new thing. Let's go see how the others mixed and matched their patterns!

  1. OMG embroidery looks like so much fun, is it hard to learn? I love doing creative stuff and that really looks like fun to me! But yeah I think your mixed prints look great, and that skirt is so cute! Isn't it great when your mom sews and makes you clothes, it makes the things you wear extra special! I hope the fire is contained, I heard about that on the news, I hope you weren't effected too much by the fire and your fine.

    1. Thank you!
Luckily, the worst the fire's done to my side of town is coat it in ash one day. It was at 90% containment as of two days ago, with full containment expected today. It seems that there's only been property damage, which, while awful, is so much better than any other sort of damage.
Embroidery was fairly easy for me to learn. I mean, before this, all I could do was a running stitch for really basic repairs. I'm not one for sewing, which is why it's really funny that I'm into embroidery all of a sudden. This is a really great tutorial: http://www.instructables.com/id/Embroidery-101/#step1

    2. That's good to hear that it's contained, I remember when there was fires by me a few years ago, there was ash everywhere but its good no one got hurt. Oh and thanks for the link!

  2. I love embroidering! I picked it up recently-- I embroidered some button-up shirts with my bridesmaids' names on them, for them to wear while we got ready together. :) Love the look, too!

    1. Oh, that's such a cute idea! It's one of those hobbies that's fairly easy to not suck at, haha.
      And thank you! :)

  3. Perf, perf, perf! You know I adore that skirt, but I also love the prints you mixed. Very cool.

I've been wanting to try embroidery for ages, I should get a move on and try it! Did you have a book or were you just going off youtube tutorials?

I actually used this tutorial to get into embroidery: http://www.instructables.com/id/Embroidery-101/#step1
I did use some random YouTube tutorial for the backstitch because my mom confused me, but it's all good, man. I've been wanting to try my hand at those cool portraits or sassy phrases for a while, and now I can do as I please! Yeah! Haha.
